CANTERBURY FAIR TRADITION CONTINUES
53nd ANNUAL EVENT SET FOR July 30th

Great Food, Shopping, Live Entertainment, Fun
For Adults and Children All Day!

CANTERBURY, NH – Chris Ennis, Chair of the Canterbury Fair Committee, announced the lineup for the 53rd Annual Canterbury Fair. Always the last Saturday in July, this year’s Fair will take place on July 30th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Canterbury Center.

An old-time Country Fair, the July 30th gathering features traditional Morris Dancing, the Woodchuck Classic 5K road race, items for sale, live music, artisan demonstrations, games for kids, and food to please every palate.

Organized annually by a team of volunteers, the Canterbury Fair takes advantage of the bucolic setting of Canterbury Center to build community. Traffic is diverted away from the town green to allow a pedestrian-friendly promenade to emerge for the day. Access to Canterbury Fair comes via shuttle bus from the ample parking in a nearby field. Admission to the Fair is free, with a $5 suggested donation for parking.

Local organizations lend a hand to make the Fair a success. The Sunset Mountain Fish and Game Club provides a chicken barbeque, with its secret BBQ sauce having proven a crowd pleaser for many years. The Canterbury Historical Society uses Fair Day to open an exhibit in the Elkins Memorial Building, with this year’s installation entitled “The Churches of Canterbury, 1727-2011.” Their one-room schoolhouse is also open for the Fair.

Acoustic music will fill Canterbury Center for most of the day, with Dudley and Jacqueline Laufman accompanying the Morris Dancers. Bluegrass bands Home Folks and Geddes Road Band will play sets throughout the early afternoon.

“Canterbury Fair remains much as I remember it from my years going as a kid,” said Ennis, who is in his fourth year as Fair Chair. “The good food, kids’ games, demonstrations, and what-not sale have been highlights for so many years, and it’s all made possible by the dedication of townspeople volunteering to come together.”

Proceeds from the Canterbury Fair benefit the Canterbury Community Church and the Canterbury Fund, a charitable fund administered to help needy residents.
