CANTERBURY, NH –The 49th Canterbury Fair will be held Saturday, July 28th from 9am to 4pm rain or shine in the town center. With events and attractions for the whole family, the fair has been held on the last Saturday in July every year since 1959. $3.00 parking fee includes a ride to and from the center.

A cannon will announce the start of the fair with a “loud” boom at 9AM and two road races, the 5k Woodchuck Classic and the 2k Chipmunk Scramble, will proceed through Canterbury Center.

Morris Dance teams will perform throughout the day accompanied by “Two Fiddles”, Dudley and Jacqueline Laufman beginning at 10:00 am.

“The Muzzeys’ featuring Folk, Country and Gospel Music will perform from 11 am to 12:00 pm. “The Mink Hill Band” will then provide live Blue Grass music from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

“The Canterbury Fair is a New Hampshire tradition that folks mark on their calendar for the last Saturday of every July” notes Lisa Carlson who has been co-chairing the fair for fifteen years.

Children will be delighted with old-fashion children’s games on the green, farm animal display and a Dunkin’ Booth
.
Fairgoers will enjoy traditional favorites like the Chicken BBQ, bake sale, antique mart, what-not-sale, nearly 50 artists and juried craftsmen, master furniture makers and working blacksmith; huge book sale, massage, square dancing performance by the Concord Coach Squares and canoe polo.  The Canterbury Historical Society will have an open house that day at the old Elkins Library to show case the recent renovations.

The Canterbury Fair is an outgrowth of church suppers and sales held by the Ladies Benevolent Society to benefit the Canterbury United Community Church prior to 1959, and the Ladies Society ran the Fair until 1965.  Since that time, a town-wide committee has overseen the Fair and proceeds benefit both the Church and the Canterbury Fun which is a charitable fund that gives out book awards and scholarships for local student graduates, supports families at times of crisis and various community projects.
